For children and teens who need additional support or who have not yet been matched with a foster family, residential care in a group home setting serves as a safe and nurturing atmosphere as they continue their individual journeys toward permanency. Abbott House operates a total of three Group Homes in Westchester and Sullivan counties which provide services for adolescents. We provide services for both male and female adolescents. The majority of these young people are preparing for independence and with the support of our Preparing Youth for Adulthood program, our teens learn how to be self-sufficient and make a positive transition into adulthood.
Additionally, we have one Community Residence, which is funded by the New York State Office of Mental Health, which provides services for children, ages 9 through 15 years old. Seriously emotionally disturbed children and youth who have failed in numerous family and group care settings, and currently exhibit serious behavioral problems, serious school problems, and a high level of mistrust of adults are appropriate referrals for this program.
