National Adoption Day is Saturday, November 17! |
|||||
If you’re thinking about becoming an adoptive or foster parent, now is the time. This Saturday is National Adoption Day, and Abbott House is proud to support this extraordinary campaign. Judge Kathie E. Davidson, supervising judge of the Westchester County Family Court and a friend of Abbott House, will finalize over 20 adoptions in White Plains. |

Two of those children will become permanent members of Anthony Anderson’s family. We recently nominated Mr. Anderson for a Family Men of Westchester Award because he exudes the true qualities of a father, friend and so much more. We came to know him a few years ago when he and his wife Madge became foster parents for a young man named DeAndre. For the past 16 years, Mr. Anderson has been a trusted At Risk Youth Counselor for White Plains High School. His welcoming presence and powerful impact have emboldened boys and girls of all ethnicities and backgrounds to address their struggles with confidence and integrity. |

His most recent accomplishment was becoming the pre-adoptive foster father to twin boys, Jordan and Jason (age 4), whom he will adopt this Saturday. (Our nomination was a success, by the way—we have learned that Anderson will indeed be one of the honorees.) This weekend, while Anthony and Madge welcome the newest members of their family, we ask you to think about the thousands of children aching to be part of a loving, permanent home. |

About National Adoption Day |
|||||
National Adoption Day is a collective national effort to raise awareness of the 114,000 children in foster care waiting to find permanent, loving families. For the last eight years, National Adoption Day has made the dreams of thousands of children come true by working with courts, judges, attorneys, adoption professionals, child welfare agencies and advocates to finalize adoptions. National Adoption Day is celebrated every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. For the first time in 2006, National Adoption Day was celebrated in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In total, more than 250 events were held throughout the country to finalize the adoptions of more than 3,300 children in foster care, and to celebrate all families who adopt.
