Abbott House offers a variety of resource activities to public elementary schools in the Mount Eden community of the Bronx. We have partnered with the New York City Department of Education to provide services to the following schools: Dona Pura Belpre PS 64, The Walton Avenue School PS 294, and Lucero PS 311.
Abbott House’s goal for this program is to obtain academic success by engaging parents, families, and other members of the community as part of a school transformation process. A community school is a collaborative and holistic approach to supporting student success that includes components such as after school and summer programming, family engagement, social services, and physical and mental health services. The ultimate goal is to develop a school community in which the students and families evolve into productive adults who will continue to grow economically and academically.
Community schools succeed when a school district, local government, and community partners join forces and align their resources and expertise to make sure every child has access to necessary academic, developmental, health, and social supports. Through this effort, Abbott House recognizes that the needs of the whole child must be met in order for students to succeed. Upwards of 200 children and their families are served annually.
