Services to Expedite Permanency
Our Services to Expedite Permanency (STEP) program operates with the fundamental goal of working to remove barriers that can prevent children or youth from achieving permanency. Through short term, intensive services, Abbott House staff partners with birth parents, adoptive parents and young adults to focus on the issues that present the biggest hurdles for reunification and permanency such as continuing medical and mental health services, substance abuse support systems, housing, and school enrollment and attendance. In recent years for example, this small unit through crisis intervention and referrals to community services, helped over 250 children and teenagers to either reunite with their birth families, obtain housing, expedite adoption, or successfully transition back into the community.
